Refining the digital experience for discerning collectors

Overview

The Antique Collector is a high-end digital marketplace and editorial platform connecting discerning collectors with verified sellers of rare antiques and collectible pieces.

The challenge was to redesign the experience to reflect the craft, heritage, and exclusivity of the objects themselves—while significantly improving usability, trust, and conversion across both buyer and seller journeys.

The existing platform lacked clarity, cohesion, and the level of sophistication expected by serious collectors. Our role was to transform it into a refined, intuitive, and credible destination—balancing luxury aesthetics with functional clarity and commercial performance.

Designing for collectors means designing for trust. Every interaction had to feel considered, authentic, and deliberate.

Trust was implied, not earned.
Collectors were expected to make high-value decisions without sufficient verification cues, provenance clarity, or confidence-building signals—creating hesitation at critical moments.

Discovery lacked narrative depth.
Objects were presented primarily as listings, with limited editorial context to communicate history, craftsmanship, or cultural significance—key factors in antique valuation.

Buyer and seller journeys overlapped.
The platform did not clearly distinguish between buyer and seller needs, resulting in ambiguous actions, diluted messaging, and friction across the marketplace.

Mobile interaction felt transactional, not intentional.
On mobile, dense layouts and weak hierarchy reduced scannability and emotional engagement, undermining discovery and enquiry flows.
